المستخلص: In the current context of universality, economy based on knowledge and high technology, the protection of technical and technological novelties against misuse, on an international scale, has become essential. The university environment has not been spared by this need to appeal to patents for inventions, considered as a means of transferring scientific knowledge to industry. This article focuses on the Algerian university and its use of invention patents. The aim is to identify practices in terms of academic patents through an analysis of available statistics on the one hand and on the perceptions of teacher-researchers with regard to this mode of valorization of research results through a survey by questionnaire, on the other hand. The results of the survey highlight that despite an increase in the number of academic patents, the use of this method of protection by universities is still low. Three main reasons justify this lack of enthusiasm: the private nature of patents, which run counter to the public dissemination of scientific knowledge, the lack of information and the high costs linked to the management of industrial property rights.

Dans le contexte actuel d’universalité, d’économie basée sur le savoir et la haute technologie, la protection des nouveautés techniques et technologiques contre les abus, à l’échelle internationale, est devenue primordiale. Le milieu universitaire n’a pas été épargné par cette nécessité de faire appel aux brevets d’inventions, considéré comme moyen de transfert des connaissances scientifiques vers l’industrie. Cet article s’intéresse à l’université algérienne et à son recours aux brevets d’inventions. Le but est d’identifier les pratiques en matière de brevets académiques à travers une analyse des statistiques disponibles d’une part et sur les perceptions des enseignants- chercheurs, à l’égard de ce mode de valorisation des résultats de recherche, à travers une enquête par questionnaire, d’autre part. Les résultats de l’enquête mettent en exergue que malgré un accroissement du nombre de brevets académiques, mais le recours aux universités à ce mode de protection reste encore faible. Trois principales raisons justifient ce faible engouement : le caractère privé du brevet d’invention qui est à l’encontre de la diffusion publique des connaissances scientifiques, le manque d’informations et les coûts élevés liés à la gestion des droits de propriété industrielle.
