المستخلص: يحاول هذا البحث أن يرصد تطور حركة الوعي التاريخي في الفكر العربي الحديث، وما تمخض عنه من أسئلة حول مستقبل الحضارة الإنسانية بشكل عام، ومستقبل الحضارة العربية الإسلامية بشكل خاص، فتساءلوا: ما القوانين التي تحكم سير الحضارات؟ ما هي عوامل نشوء الحضارات وعوامل انهيارها؟ هل يمكن للعرب بعث مجدهم والمشاركة الفاعلة في حضارة المستقبل؟ أم أن التمدن والتحضر سيظل مقصور على الحضارة الغربية؟ هل التمدن قاصر على عقلية دون غيرها، وجنس دون آخر؟ هل علينا أن نظل تابعين للمدنية الغربية باعتبارها الحضارة التي تقود العالم الحديث، أم يجب الاعتماد على الذات في إعادة البناء وتشييد حضارة تحمل هويتنا وطابعنا الثقافي؟ هل يمكن أن ينقلب التمدن الغربي ويذهب إلى حضارة أخرى؟ هل يمكن أن يتسع العالم لأكثر من حضارة فلا يترتب على قيام حضارة سقوط أخرى، أم أن قوانين التاريخ تحتم وجود حضارة واحدة تسود؟ هذه الأسئلة عن المستقبل ما كانت لتأتي بغير حدوث الوعي التاريخي والحضاري، ومن هنا كانت نقطة انطلاق هذا البحث لرصد تطور هذا الوعي الذي ولد مع الانتقال من مرحلة شاعت فيها فلسفة الموت ونهاية العالم وهي الكفيلة بالقضاء على أي حداثة ممكنة، إلى مرحلة حضرت فيها ثقافة الأمل والتفاؤل بالمستقبل، انتقل التأريخ خلالها من التأريخ للفوضى إلى التأريخ للحضور والإنجاز، الذي كان من نتيجته المشاركة في الحديث عن مستقبل الحضارة، والبحث عن الأسس الكفيلة بالمشاركة الفاعلة في المستقبل.

This study is an attempt to examine the development of the movement of historical awareness in modern Arab thought, and the resulting questions about the future of human civilization in general, and the future of Arab-Islamic civilization in particular. They asked: What are the laws that govern the course of civilizations? What are the factors that lead to the emergence of civilizations and eventually their collapse? Can Arabs resuscitate their glory and actively participate in the creation of future civilization? Or that urbanization and development will remain limited to Western civilization? Is urbanization limited to a particular mentality or a specific gender other than any other? Do we have to remain subordinate to the Western civilization as the civilization that leads the modern world, or should we rely on self-reliance in rebuilding and constructing a civilization that bears our identity and our particular cultural character? Is it possible that western civilization pass to another people? Is it possible for the world to expand to more than one civilization so that another civilization does not result in the fall of another, or do the laws of history necessitate the existence of a single civilization that prevails? These questions about the future would not have come without the occurrence of historical and civilized awareness; hence, there was the starting point of this research to explore the development of this awareness that was born with the transition from a stage in which the philosophy of death and the end of the world was common. This philosophy provides a guarantee to eliminate any possible attempts at modernization. Now the move is to a stage in which the culture of hope and optimism about the future comes in, and history moves from chaos to actualization and achievement. This move will result in participation in talks about the future of civilization, and the search for the foundations of effective participation in the future.
