|b This paper claims that Humans are first of all Homoculturus before being Homo Politicus or Homo Sociologus or Homo Oeconomicus. Humans are distinguished from the rest of the species by what I call Human Symbols/HS: language, thought, religion, knowledge/ science, myths, laws and cultural values and norms. As such, HS are too central to the human identity of individuals, groups and societies. Consequently, they are basic keys for understanding and explaining individual as well as collective behaviours in human societies. The theoretical framework/paradigm of Homo Culturus helps explain also the phenomenon of the human mind in its various forms: illiterate mind, educated mind and the great thinking minds of scientists and scholars like Ibn Khaldun’s.
