المستخلص: حظيت العتبات باهتمام الباحثين قديما وحديثا لأنها تسلط الضوء على مضمون النص وتأخذ بيد القراء للتعرف عليه بأدنى جهد وأيسر طريق. ولما كانت رسالة التوابع والزوابع من أقدم النماذج السردية في الأدب العربي فقد ناسب ذلك أن تتم دراستها من هذه الزاوية وبخاصة أنها شهدت حضور عدد غير قليل من تلك العتبات كالعنوان والاستهلال بالإضافة إلى عدد من العتبات الموازية، ويتكون هذا البحث من مقدمة وتمهيد وثلاثة مباحث وخاتمة وفهرس: أما التمهيد فيتكون من قسمين: القسم الأول: أضواء على شخصية الكاتب القسم الثاني: العتبات؛ الرؤية والتأصيل. المبحث الأول: عتبة العنوان وهو (التوابع والزوابع) الذي يدل على القوة المفرطة والتخير البارع والترابط المحكم بين العنوان والمتن سواء في ذلك العنوان الرئيس والعناوين الفرعية. المبحث الثاني: عتبة الاستهلال؛ ومن خلالها يشير ابن شهيد إلى دواعي كتابته لهذا النص ويسلط الضوء على مضمونه ومحتواه، ولقد أتى الاستهلال ثماره وهيأ المتلقي لاستيعاب ما يسوقه الكاتب من أحداث أسطورية وحكايات عجائبية. المبحث الثالث: العتبات الموازية؛ وهي تقابل ما سماه جينيت مناص الناشر أو ما يسمى بالنص الموازي ويشمل كل ما يتعلق بالنص المركزي لكنه يأتي مصاحبا له في إطار الكتاب الذي يحويه كالغلاف والعناوين والهوامش.

The thresholds have received the attention of researchers, in ancient and modern times because they shed light on the content of the text and helped the readers to identify the meaning of the texts with the least effort and by the easiest way. Since the message of (Jenn and Whirlwinds) was one of the oldest narrative models in Arabic literature, it was appropriate to study it from this angle, especially since it witnessed the presence of a large number of those thresholds such as the title and introduction, in addition to a number of parallel thresholds. This research consists of an introduction, a preface, three chapters, a conclusion and an index. The preface consists of two parts: The first part represents highlights of the writer’s personality. The second part tackles the thresholds; Vision and rooting. The first topic: The threshold of the title, which is (Jenn and Whirlwinds), which indicates whether in the main title and sub-headings. The second topic: the threshold of initiation in which the author indicates the reasons for writing this text and highlights its content and content. The initiation has successfully achieved its goals and prepared the recipient to grasp the legendary events and miraculous tales that the writer is actually depicting. The third topic: parallel thresholds that correspond to what Genette called the publisher's targets, or what is called the parallel text. This includes everything related to the central text, but it comes accompanying and adjacent to the framework of the book including the cover, titles, and margins.
