يعتبر العمل الأهلي الذى تقوم به منظمات المجتمع المدني على اختلاف تخصصاتها من أهم الوسائل المستخدمة في النهوض بمكانة المجتمعات في عصرنا الحالي، وكذلك يكتسب أهمية تزداد يوما بعد يوم، ولم تعد الحكومات وحدها قادرة على تلبية احتياجات أفرادها بسبب زيادة تعقيدات الظروف الحياتية، وبعد ظهور مفاهيم جديدة في ما يتعلق بحقوق الإنسان، والمشاركة السياسة والمجتمعية، والثقافة المدنية وزيادة دور الفرد فكان لابد من وجود جهات غير حكومية ممثلة في منظمات المجتمع المدني تساند الجهات الحكومية وتكمل دورها المنوطة به لتلبية احتياجات الأفراد والوصول إلى مجتمع ديمقراطي متطور. وتقوم منظمات المجتمع المدني بدورها الفعال في تنمية المجتمع، وخاصة أن نشأتها نابعة من الاحتياج الفعلي لها، وفي العقدين الأخرين ظهر الاهتمام بها بشكل جيد وذلك نتيجة التطورات التكنولوجية والتحولات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والسياسية التي شهدها العالم، وكذلك زيادة الاهتمام بمفاهيم حقوق الإنسان والمفاهيم التنموية التي تسعي إلى تكريس دور الإنسان وإعطاءه دورا هاما وبارزا في المساهمة تطوير وبناء المجتمع. كما شهد العالم خلال العقد الماضي تحولات جزرية وعميقة تركت أثار اجتماعية في منظمات المجتمع المدني بحيث أصبحت تمارس عملها خلال القرن الجديد داخل مناخ يتسم بالاضطرابات وعدم الاستقرار، وفي هذا المناخ فإن جميع هذه المنظمات لن تتمكن من البقاء والاستمرار ما لم تقوم القيادات الإدارية فيها بإتباع أفضل أساليب القيادة الحديثة لمواجهة المستقبل والاستعداد له بشكل جيد.

The world has also witnessed, during the past decade, island and deep transformations that have left social impacts in civil society organizations, so that they practice their work during the new century within a climate characterized by turmoil and instability, and in this climate, all these organizations will not be able to survive and continue unless the administrative leaders in them follow better Modern leadership styles to face the future and prepare for it well.
