المستخلص: This article tackles the issue of military coups in Africa. The study depends on the historical method along with views of deeply concerned authors in addition to data analysis to reach its objectives. It attempts to investigate the different factors that led the military officers to intervene in the political life in African states taking Ghana as an example. It also tries to determine the impact of these interventions at both the political and economic level, and in Africa in general and Ghana in particular. The study concludes that military interventions were often more of a deviation from track than any course correction. The article contributes to studies that are concerned with civil-military regimes and their impact on the economic and political development in Africa.
