المستخلص: The texts indicate that as-Siddīq and al-Fārūq are those who deserve to be caliphs after the messenger of Allah. There is a consensus in that issue and the scholars have always declared that view, but they disagreed regarding the pledge of allegiance of Sa’d bin ‘Ubādah to as-Siddīq and al-Fārūq (may Allah be pleased with them all). Some of the scholars hold the opinion that he never pledged allegiance, and that this is an odd opinion and does not undermine the consensus. Other scholars believe that he did give the pledge of allegiance and returned to the truth after the dispute that occurred. This research discusses the historical accounts and the various opinions of the scholars regarding the position of Sa’d bin Ubādah’s pledge of allegiance to as-Siddīq and al-Fārūq (may Allah be pleased with them all), and the correct opinion in this issue based on evidences. The researcher presented a short general introduction of Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jam’ah’s creed regarding the companions and specifically their creed regarding Sa’d bin Ubādah. The researcher also mentioned the merits and virtues of Sa’d bin Ubādah (may Allah be pleased with him). In the end, the researcher mentioned the reason of why Sa’d bin Ubādah (may Allah be pleased with him) died. The researcher mentions the different opinions in this issue, criticize what is worthy of critique and then mentions the correct opinion in the end.
