المستخلص: This article presents "The Book of Crates", a treatise on Arabic alchemy written in the ninth century. Very little studied, "The Book of Crates" is a major and little known source on the history of Arab alchemy. Through this study, we explore the fabulous story of the alchemist Crates in search of the Great Work. The opportunity to rediscover a forgotten teaching, shared between a scientific and technical dimension but also a philosophical and esoteric one.

Cet article présente "Le Livre de Crates", un traité d’alchimie arabe écrit au neuvième siècle. Très peu étudié, "Le Livre de Crates" demeure une source majeure et méconnue sur l’histoire de l’alchimie arabe. A travers cette étude, nous explorons le récit fabuleux de l’alchimiste Crates en quête du Grand Œuvre. L’occasion de redécouvrir un enseignement oublié, partagé entre une dimension scientifique et technique mais également philosophique et ésotérique.
