المستخلص: تعد تقنية سلسلة الكتل تقنية ناشئة واعدة، بالرغم من شيوع انتشارها في العملات الرقمية، تحتوي على سجلات قابلة للتحقق ومختومة زمنيا للتأكد من محتوى معاملات المستخدمين دون الحاجة إلى طرف ثالث. تستعرض الدراسة مفهوم تقنية السلسلة الكتل، وتطورها المفاهيمي منذ أنشائها حتى الآن، ومكوناتها وآلية عملها، أهميتها، وأنواعها، والفرص التي تتيحها. كذلك تتناول الدراسة هذه التقنية في مجال المعلومات والمكتبات من حيث: فيما إذا كانت تمثل حلولا لها أم مشكلات، أهميتها في المكتبات، وعرض الحالات الممكنة لاستخدام هذه التقنية في العمليات المكتبية، والمعوقات والتحديات التي تعيق تنفيذ المكتبات لها. بالرغم من أن التقنية لا تزال في مرحلة النشوء إلا أن لها القابلية على الاستخدام في المكتبات في ربط سجلات الإعارة بسجلات هذه التقنية، والقدرة على التأثير والتحويل في عمل المكتبات مثل تخزين وتنظيم المعلومات وصيانة المجموعات وتبادل المعلومات وغيرها. ليس للمكتبات الكثير من المعلومات حول التكلفة الحقيقية لتطوير الحلول والتحديات التي تواجهها. مع يبقى تنفيذ تطبيقات التقنية في المكتبات على المستوى المفاهيمي. يجب على المكتبات أن تفكر بتطبيقات هذه التقنية وأن تحرص على التعلم والتجربة على المستوى المحلي أو العالمي وتقديم المزيد من الأفكار والدراسات بهدف تطوير هذه التطبيقات. وكذلك العمل على وعي وتثقيف العاملين بهذه التقنية وتطبيقاتها.

Blockchain technology is a promising emerging technology that, despite its popularity in cryptocurrencies, contains verifiable, time-stamped records to confirm the content of users' transactions without the need for a third party. The study presents the concept of Blockchain technology, its conceptual development since its inception until now, its components and mechanism of work, its importance, types, and the opportunities it provides. The study also deals with this technology in the area of library and information in terms of: whether it provides solutions or problems, its importance in libraries, the possible cases of using this technology in library operations, and the obstacles and challenges that hinder the implementation of it by libraries. Although the technology is still in its evolution stage, it has the potential to be used in libraries in linking checkout records to records of this technology, and the ability to influence and transform the work of libraries, such as information storage and organization, maintaining collections, exchanging information, and others. Libraries don't have much information about the true cost of developing solutions and the challenges they face. With the implementation of technology applications in libraries remains at the conceptual level. Libraries should think about the applications of this technology and be keen to learn and experiment at the local or global level and provide more ideas and studies in order to develop these applications. As well as working on awareness and education of employees of this technology and its applications.
