Relations between Christians and Muslims, in history since the earliest Islam era, have been very intense, complex and changing. The Spain of the 16th and 17th centuries is an exceptional experimental field which has attracted linguists, literary specialists, anthropologists and historians. Over time an impassable chams has opened up between the old and new Christian communities. The refusal of the other resulted in a fierce clash between the two sides. And, in the end, the Moriscos ended up accepting that their life in the native land had ended and, they had no other way but to leave for new horizons, with all the fear that came with it. Thus, we will see how these Moriscos, victims of intolerance experienced a situation where they sought refuge and recognition of their own existence. |
