المستخلص: تناقش هذه الدراسة مسألة الهوية من منظور أنثروبولوجي وسوسيو سياسي، وتنطلق من فرضية أن صراع الهويات يؤدي إلى عدم الاستقرار السياسي والاجتماعي، وقد يؤدي إلى حرب أهلية وانفصال كما في الحالة السودانية التي تقدم تفسيرا إمبيريقيا لهذه الفرضية. وترى الورقة أن جوهر أزمة الهوية يكمن في فشل النخب في حسن إدارة التنوع من خلال إقامة دولة محايدة في تعاملها مع كل مكونات المجتمع الإثنية والقبلية والثقافية من خلال بوتقة انصهار. وترى الدراسة أن النخبة السودانية فشلت في إدارة التنوع وتبرهن على ذلك من خلال دراسة مقارنة بين السودان وعدة دول أخرى أكثر تنوعا من السودان – مثل الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية والهند ونيجيريا- التي حققت درجات متفاوتة من الاستقرار من خلال نظام ديمقراطي حقق دولة العدالة والمواطنة والقانون. وتتناول الدراسة أهم مرتكزات الهوية ونظرية بوتقة الانصهار وأسباب أزمة الهوية في السودان وعلاقتها بعدم الاستقرار والحروب في السودان التي أدت إلى فصل جنوبه واضطرابات في مناطق أخرى. وترى أن السودان يشكل صورة مصغرة لأفريقيا في التنوع وفي طبيعة المشكلات وهو يقدم نموذجا فريدا لمسألة التنوع وصراع الهويات وتأثيرها على الاستقرار السياسي والاجتماعي.

This paper deals with the issue of “conflict of identities” from an anthropological and socio-political perspective. It discusses a basic hypothesis that ‘conflict of identities leads to a political and social instability and might end cause a civil war or even a fragmentation of a country such as the secession of South Sudan which provides an empirical evidence for this hypothesis. The paper maintains that the essence of the crisis of identity is an outcome of the failure of the political elites to manage the diversity properly and lack of a ‘neutral’ state to deal fairly with all components regardless to their origin, color or religion. The paper supports this explanation with a comparative perspective that includes – the United States of America, India, and Nigeria which have all achieved a relative degree of stability through proper democracy that sustains the state of law, This paper deals with the issue of “conflict of identities” from an anthropological and socio-political perspective. The study also examines the pillars of identity, touches on the ‘melting pot’ theory, as well as the root causes of the crisis of identity in Sudan and how it has been responsible for instability and wars in Sudan that had eventually led to the secession of the South. It believes that Sudan provides a unique example for a highly diversified country which is known as a ‘microcosm of Africa’ whose problems represents the problems of Africa.
