المستخلص: شكل مفهوم الديمقراطية وتطبيقاتها كممارسة سياسية جزءا كبيرا من الفكر السياسي لرواد الحركة الوطنية السودانية. ويحاول المقال أن يجيب على التساؤل حول صدقية الدعوة للديمقراطية التي تبناها هؤلاء الرواد وما إذا كانت حقيقية أم زائفة؟ وذلك من خلال دراسة فكر وتطبيق أحد هؤلاء الرواد وهو أحمد خير المحامي (1902-1995 م) عبر دراسة وتحليل سفره المشهور كفاح جيل: تاريخ حركة الخريجين وتطورها في السودان، فدعوة المؤلف للديمقراطية وفهمه لها سقط عمليا بمشاركته في حكومة الفريق إبراهيم عبود العسكرية 1958-1964 م. بينما سقط الآخرون -جل معاصريه -في أتون الطائفية. مما يستوجب البحث عن أسباب ذلك.

The concept of democracy and its application as a political practice forms a considerable part of the political thinking of the pioneers of the Sudanese national movement. This essay is an attempt trying to answer the question about the creditability of the call of democracy which was adopted by those pioneers and discuss whether it real or false? This would be done through the study of thinking and though the practicing of one of those pioneers…..that is Ahmed Khair, (1902 - 1995) famous lawyer and politician. The study depends on an analytical approach of Ahmed Khair famous lawyer ‘the Struggle of a generation’ the history of the graduates movement and its development in Sudan. The invitation of the author to democracy and his understanding to it had practically failed through his participation in the government of the Major General Ibrahim Abboud 1958-1964, while most of the Sufi orders of his contemporaries fell under the political influence of communalism, a thing that requires further research to know the reasons.
