المستخلص: تعد دراسة المسح الأثري من الدراسات المهمة في حقل الآثار فهو يساعد على فهم الظروف التي أدت إلى التوزيعات المكانية وما هي المحددات التي تشكلت منها أنماط الاستيطان المختلفة، وما هي أسباب التباين والاختلاف بالأحجام بين المواقع الأثرية في نفس المنطقة، كل هذه الأسئلة من الممكن أن تجيب عنها المسوحات الآثارية الواسعة، هي غير مكلفة ماديا مقارنة بأعمال التنقيب الأثري التي تحتاج إلى تمويل مادي كبير للتوصل إلى النتائج المرجوة، لكن تبقى هناك حاجة ملحة إلى أعمال تنقيب أثري لدراسة الطرز المعمارية والأدوار الحضارية والنصوص الكتابية القديمة، ولكل حقل من حقول البحث الأثري سواء التنقيب أم المسح الآثاري دور مهم، ولذلك كانت هناك ضرورة إلى أعمال مسح تشمل المنطقة، مع استخدام كافة التقنيات الحديثة والمتطورة التي تحدث هذه العملية وتعطينا نتائج أفضل لتميز الأنهار القديمة والمواقع الأثرية، وتم دراسة المنطقة ومشاهدة الخرائط التي يعود إليها التل وزيارات عديدة للمواقع الميدانية واستخدام البرامج الحديثة التي تخص أعمال المسح الأثري والتي تساعد الباحث الأثري إلى التميز الموقع الأثري والأنهار القديمة، حيث كان المسح الأثري في بداية الأمر لا يعدو أن يكون مجرد إجراء أولي يسبق الحفر يحدد عن طريقه حيزها وإطارها غير أنه مع مرور الوقت أصبح المسح الأثري هدفا مقصودا وتخصصا قائما بذاته كغيره من التخصصات التي يتضمنها علم الآثار وبفضله ساعد الكثير من الأثريين على أماكن الحفر وساهم في سرعة التحديد والإنجاز وقلة التكاليف مقارنة بالحفريات السابقة التي كانت تتطلب إمكانيات كبيرة ووقت طويل لتحديد الموقع الأثري من التل العادي، فالمسح الأثري يجعل نظرة الباحث الأثري واسعة وشاملة ويسمح بتكوين معلومات في مختلف أنواع المعالم والبقايا الأثرية وفترات تاريخية متعددة.
