|a يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة بدايات الوعي الثقافي والسياسي لدى الشعوب الأفريقية بشكل تدريجي منذ بداية الحرب العالمية الأولى، حتى يمكن اعتبارها مرحلة مهمة من مراحل تطور الوعي العام لدى الأفارقة وإن كانت عملية التطور الحاصلة بشكل بطيء والتي كانت من أبرز عواملها البعثات التبشيرية، التي أسهمت بشكل أو بآخر على بث الوعي الثقافي بين الأفارقة، إذ تعلم الكثير من اللغات الأوروبية المختلفة كالإنكليزية والفرنسية والبرتغالية، إلخ، والتي عن طريقها اطلعوا على الحضارة الأوروبية والفكر المتعلق بالحرية، وحق التعبير عن الرأي والمساواة في الحقوق السياسية والمدنية، أيضا كان للاختلاط مع الأوروبيين دورا كبيرا في هذا المجال الذي تمثل في إقامة علاقات إنسانية يضاف إلى ذلك الزواج بين الطرفين والذي أسهم في ظهور جيل جديد.
