|a يضع هذا البحث اليد على ما يعتري التنوين من إشكاليات، تعكس قصور عملية التقعيد النحوي عن مجاراة الواقع اللغوي، وما يلجأ إليه النحوي من وسائل متكلفة للحفاظ على استقامة القاعدة؛ وإن تناقضت مع الاستعمال. فالبحث توقف على الاختلاف الحقيقي بين حرفية التنوين بوصفه حرف معنى- على ما أقره النحويون، وعلى القرائن الحقيقية التي تسند إلى الاستعمال في أنه علامة إعرابية تساوق بقية العلامات الأخرى، فضلا عن أن تشعيب التنوين إلى عدة مسميات لا يستند إلى واقع لغوي رصين، ولاسيما ما أسموه بتنوين التنكير، وتنوين العوض، وتنوين المقابلة. البحث تطرق أيضا إلى قضية تجويز النحويين لدخول التنوين على الاسم المنادى؛ على الرغم من إجماعهم على أن التنوين قرينة قوية على الإعراب وتتعارض مع البناء، والمنادى المفرد حقه البناء؛ لكنهم تسامحوا في قبول دخول التنوين عليه تحت ذريعة الاضطرار.
