|a تدين إمارة مولدافيا بإنشائها في منتصف القرن الرابع عشر الميلادي، إلى الجهود التي قام بها لويس الأول ملك هنغاريا (المجر) (1342-1382م) من أجل بسط نفوذه شرق الكاربات. حيث أعتلي الأمير لاتكو الحكم في عام 1368م؛ ومن ثم قرر التحول إلى الكاثوليكية، مما جلب له ثلاث مزايا؛ هي: أولا- الحماية من التوسع المجري على إمارته، ثانيا- الاستفادة من تقارب الجوار مع مملكة بولندا، ثالثا- ضمان الحماية البابوية له ولإمارته الناشئة والمستقلة حديثا، ولكي يضمن أيضا الحرية والاستقلال الذاتي في حالة وجود نية لتوسع السلطة البولندية على أراضي مولدافيا. وفي ذلك الإطار اتصل الأمير لاتكو بالبابوية لكي يستقوي بها ضد الهيمنة السياسية المجرية على أراضي إمارته، وأرسل في بداية عام 1370م سفارة تحمل رسالة منه إلى البابا أوربان الخامس (1362-1370م)، أبلغه فيها بتحوله إلى الكاثوليكية، وطلب منه تأسيس أبرشية كاثوليكية في عاصمته سيريت، وتعيين أسقف كاثوليكي عليها. وبالفعل قام البابا بعمل الإجراءات اللازمة لتأسيس تلك الأسقفية، لكن عاجلته المنية قبل إتمام ذلك؛ فقام خليفته البابا جريجوري الحادي عشر (1370-1378م)، بتكليف الأسقف فلوريان أسقف كراكوف، بترسيم الأسقف البولندي "أندرياس " كأول أسقف على أسقفية سيريت (1371-1388م).
|b The Principality of Moldavia owes its establishment in the middle of the fourteenth century to the efforts made by King Louis I of Hungary (1342-1382) to extend his influence east of the Carpathians.In 1368, Prince Latcu came to power in the Principality of Moldavia, and decided to convert to Catholicism, which brought to him three advantages: First: protection from Hungarian expansion over his emirate, Second: benefiting from the proximity of the neighborhood with the Kingdom of Poland, Third and finally: ensuring papal protection for him and his emirate newly emerging and independent countries, to also guarantee freedom and autonomy in the event of an intention to extend Polish power over the territory of Moldavia. In this context, Prince Latcu contacted the papacy to strengthen it against the Hungarian political domination of his principality, and at the beginning of the year 1370, he sent an embassy carrying a letter from him to Pope Urban V (1362-1370), informing him of his conversion to Catholicism, and asking him to establish a Catholic Diocese in Its capital "Siret", and a Catholic bishop is appointed over it. Indeed, the Pope took the necessary measures to establish this episcopate, but he died, so his successor, Pope Gregory XI (1370-1378),commissioned Bishop Florian, Bishop of Krakow, to ordain the Polish bishop “Andreas” as the first bishop of the Diocese of Siret (1371-1388).
