المستخلص: اتخذ مفهوم "الراديكالية" منذ بدايات القرن الحادي والعشرين مكانا مهما ضمن شواغل العلوم الإنسانية، فقد فرض انتشارها الكوني تحديات أمنية وسياسية بالغة على المجتمعات والحكومات، وسيكون على الجماعة العلمية استنفار العدة المعرفية وتطويرها لمقاربة الظاهرة وفهم أسبابها ومراكمة المعرفة العلمية حولها. في هذا العمل سنعرض، باعتماد منهج المقارنة، لأطروحتين من ضمن ما ينتج من أدبيات في المجال الأكاديمي الفرنسي، تختلفان جذريا في تشخيص الظاهرة وتفسير أسبابها إلى حد التعارض، تندرج الأولى ضمن أطروحة ما يسمى "صراع الثقافات" ويمثلها "جيل كيبال، " وتندرج الثانية ضمن أطروحة "أعطاب الحداثة" وفراغات المعنى ويمثلها "أوليفييه روا".

Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, the concept of 'radicalism' has moved to the centre stage of the humanities. This is no surprise when the phenomenon of ‘radicalism’ took on new characteristics, and its spread imposed serious security and political challenges on governments worldwide. In this situation, the scientific community (researchers and experts in the humanities) is found under the obligation to mobilize and develop the knowledge kit required to approach the phenomenon, understand its causes and develop enough scientific knowledge about it. In the following work, we will present two theses that developed within the French academic field, and approximated the phenomenon. The difference in their diagnosis, and explanation of the causes of the phenomenon amounted to the point of theoretical entanglement. While the first thesis, represented by Gilles Kepel, falls within the general argument of the 'clash of civilizations', the second one, represented by Olivier Roy, makes part of the so-called the 'flaws of modernity' approach, which focuses on the study of the fragility of integration, and voids in meaning, caused by politics in modern societies.
