تمهد هذه الدراسة بسياق نبذة عن سيرة خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبدالعزيز آل سعود الشخصية ومسيرته العملية، والتنويه بالإنجازات التنموية اللافتة التي شهدتها المملكة العربية السعودية في عهده في مختلف المجالات، محاوله إبراز عنايته بالمخطوطات، وبيان اهتمامه بالكتب والمخطوطات اقتناء ودعما وتوجيها، وحماية وترميما، وطباعة وإهداء على المستويين الشخصي والمؤسسي، ومن ذلك عنايته بمكتبة الملك فهد الوطنية إبان ترؤسه مجلس أمنائها وإشرافه عليها، ودوره في انتقال مخطوطات عدد من الجهات الحكومية إليها، ودوره في إصدار نظام حماية التراث المخطوط في المملكة، وعنايته بدارة الملك عبدالعزيز التي تولى رئاسة مجلس إدارتها وبالمخطوطات وما يتعلق بها فيها على نحو خاص، مع سياق جملة من المشروعات الرائدة والمعارض والفعاليات العلمية التي أقامتها الدارة.
This study begins with a brief biography of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, including his achievements. This is then followed by a discussion of the significant developmental achievements witnessed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during his reign in all fields. An attempt is made to emphasize his concern for manuscripts and to elucidate the attention he has given to books and manuscripts, whether through purchase, support, or the issue of directives, as well as the efforts he supported in protecting, restoring, publishing or gifting them on both the personal and institutional levels. An example is King Fahd National Library during his period as President of its Board of Trustees and supervisor of the Library, including his role in the transfer of manuscripts to the library from many government agencies. King Salman has also played a role in the promulgation of the law governing the protection of the manuscript heritage of the Kingdom, and he has given his attention to the King Abdulaziz Center for Research and Archives, of which he is the President of its Board of Trustees, and particularly the manuscripts it preserves. Mention is made of many of the pioneering projects, exhibitions and events that have been held under the auspices of the Center.
