|b We note that despite the great importance of the Indian Ocean in the lives of the nations and peoples of the ancient world, and the coast of the Zanj as part of it, academic attention has not been given to it in comparison to the life on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, which is recent in the codification world (end of the 15th century AD). And according to this reality, the eastern African interface (the mainland of Zanj) overlooking the Indian Ocean was horribly and suspiciously ignored by historians, to the extent that the available rigorous studies seem to be few and very rare, especially those related to the Islamic period between the 8th century AD and the beginning of the 16th century AD. Accordingly; this study deals with a number of axes, the first of which is: the Indian Ocean in the geography of the ancient world, and the second is: the development of the Muslim relationship with the eastern coast of Africa south of the Kingdom of Abyssinia, the third is: an overview of the Emirates and the Islamic urban centers on the eastern coast of Africa, and the fourth axis is: the cultural and political dimensions of the Arab-Islamic presence on the eastern coast of Africa.
