African oil has become one of the most important factors influencing the global system. It is also one of the most prominent axes of international competition on the African continent, due to the current developments in the international context, such as the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the continuation of the Russian Ukrainian war in Eastern Europe. It is expected that the oil imports of the major powers will increase during the coming years from African countries, as the expectations of the International Energy Agency indicate an increase in Chinese oil imports to reach about 13 million barrels of oil per day by 2030. Russia’s possible exit from the European gas market in the future is a good opportunity for the African continent to supply European countries with their needs of oil and gas, which gives them an impetus to boost their economies and enhance African-European cooperation in the field of energy. The African continent can impose itself on the international arena by maximizing its role in the global energy market and taking advantage of the international contradictions during the current period, taking advantage of the huge potential it possesses in the fields of oil and natural gas. This requires overcoming all challenges that could hinder oil projects, especially the deterioration of African infrastructure, and exploiting the international competition between international powers and companies to attract more foreign investments in the energy sector, and enhance economic returns for African countries.
