تميزت العمارة المعاصرة على مدى تاريخها الطويل بالثراء الحضاري وما خلفه من تراث معماري زاخر بكل أنواع جماليات العمران، فلقد كانت العمارة في العالم العربي على مر العصور هي المرآة الصادقة المعبرة عن احتياجات المجتمع ومقوماته وظروفه، حيث نجحت في استيعاب المتغيرات وطبعتها بطابع محلي ليتمشى مع قيمها وبيئتها. فالفكر المعماري الأصيل الذي نبتغيه لعمارتنا العربية ينبغي أن يصنع القدرة على توصيل الانقطاع الحضاري للقيم والأعراف الاجتماعية الأصيلة، عن طريق إيصال العناصر الإيجابية التي يمكن تطويرها من التراث وكذلك تطوير العناصر الإيجابية المعاصرة من اتجاهات فكرية حديثة وإيصالها للمجتمع بصورة واضحة تضمن للمجتمع القدرة على التقييم والاختيار. فنجد أن هناك بعض النماذج المعمارية لمعماريين حاولوا الارتباط بالبيئة والتراث وموروثاته فحاولوا تأصيل عمارة عربية الطابع تستلهم البيئة المحلية وتستفيد في الوقت نفسه من المتغيرات الثقافية والاقتصادية والسياسية وتوظيفها لتشييد عمارة عربية حديثة ذات انتماءات عدة لاتجاهات مختلفة من الموروث المعماري الحضاري ولكن بأبعاد ملائمة للعصر الحالي ومن أشهر المعماريين المعاصرين زها حديد.
Contemporary architecture has been distinguished throughout its long history by the richness of civilization and the legacy of architecture rich in all kinds of aesthetics of urbanism, architecture in the Arab world throughout the ages has been the honest mirror expressing the needs of society, its components and conditions, as it succeeded in absorbing the variables and mixed with a local character in line with its values and environment. The original architectural thought that we seek for our Arab architecture should create the ability to link the cultural discontinuity of authentic social values and norms, by communicating the positive elements that can be developed from the heritage, as well as developing the contemporary positive elements from modern intellectual trends and communicating them to the community in a clear manner that guarantees the community the ability to evaluate and choose. We find that there are some architectural models of architects who tried to link with the environment, heritage and its legacies, so they tried to root an Arab architecture that is inspired by the local environment and at the same time benefits from cultural economic, and political variables and employs it to build modern Arab architecture with several affiliations to different directions of the architectural heritage of civilization, but with dimensions appropriate to the current era and the most famous contemporary architects is Zaha Hadid.
