هذا العمل البحثي هو محاولة لدراسة وتحليل الطرق التي يتقاطع بها المسرح والدين، مرتكزا على مبدأ أساس، هو أن هذا التشابه بين الحقلين يجعل المسرح أكثر قدرة على استكشاف القضايا الدينية الملحة التي تشغل عالمنا المعاصر، تحديدا قضية التداخل بين الحقل الديني والحقل السياسي. وواحدة من أبرز المجتمعات التي تعاني من توابع هذا التداخل بين الحقلين هي المجتمعات الأفريقية المعاصرة، حيث جسد الإنتاج المسرحي الأفريقي في عهد الاستعمار الدور الذي لعبه الخطاب الديني الصادر عن الكنائس التبشيرية في تعزيز هيمنة المستعمر الأوروبي، حيث استخدمت القوى الأوروبية القناع الديني من أجل بسط هيمنتها على القارة الأفريقية. بهذا الشكل؛ فالسؤال المحوري الذي يطرحه هذا العمل البحثي هو: كيف يمكن استغلال الترابط بين دراسات المسرح ودراسات الأديان في تحليل التأثيرات السياسية التي تمارسها الأديان في الأنحاء المختلفة من القارة الأفريقية.
This research work is an attempt to study and analyze the ways in which theatre and religion intersect, based on the basic principle that this similarity between the two fields makes theater more capable of exploring the pressing religious issues that occupy our contemporary world, specifically the issue of the overlap between the religious field and the political field. One of the most prominent societies that suffer from the consequences of this overlap between the two fields is the contemporary African societies. African theatrical productions during the colonial era depict to us how the religious discourse emanating from the missionary churches played a prominent role in consolidating the domination of the European colonialist, as the European powers used the religious mask to spread dominance over the African continent. in this way, the major question raised by this research work is: How can the interrelationship between theater studies and religions studies be exploited in analyzing the political influences exercised by religions in different parts of the African continent.
