المستخلص: تتنوع المقابلات التي أجرتها الصحافة الفرنسية مع العلامة الإيطالي أمبرتو ايكو بين العامين 1993 و 2016. وقد اختار بعضها وترجمها اسكندر حبش وغازي برو في كتاب صدر عن دار الفارابي تحت عنوان "هكذا تكلم ايكو: مقالات عنه وأحاديث معه (2017). وهو عمل يفتح على مسألة الترجمة، التي أولاها ايكو جل اهتمامه، مترجما ومترجما. فتبين له، بالنظري والعملي، أن الترجمة لا تقوم في الأساس إلا على مبدأ الانفتاح الحضاري، الأمر الذي تميز به ايكو، ولا تستوي إلا على قاعدتي الحوار والتفاوض. لأن التقاط المعنى، لنقله بأمانة تؤدي المعنى، يتطلب في معظم الأحيان فتح حوار مع النص، ومع الثقافة التي يدور في فلكها، للانعتاق من التطرف على أشكاله والحوار بدوره يرتكز على التفاوض بين الخصوصيات اللغوية والاجتماعية والثقافية التي يختزنها النص المصدر وخصوصيات نص الوصول، لتفادي الخسارات قدر الإمكان والتعويض حيث تدعو الحاجة. وعلى هذا النحو، تتحول الترجمة إلى فن، لا يتوقف عند المعرفة اللغوية وحسب، إنما يطال القدرة على التفاوض والحوار. فالفن الذي تمارسه الترجمة ليس فنا لغويا، يقوم على نقل حروف وكلمات وجمل وفقرات، بل هو فن يتمتع من يمارسه بالقدرة على التنقل بين الثقافات، كي يأتي النص المترجم وفيا للنص المصدر وأمينا لمعانيه ومخلصا لدلالاته.

The interviews conducted by the French press with the Italian scholar Umberto Eco span the years 1993 to 2016. Some of these interviews were selected and translated by Alexandre Habbash and Ghazi Burou in a book published by Dar al-Farabi titled "This is How Eco Speaks: Articles About Him and Conversations With Him" (2017). This work delves into the issue of translation, a topic that Eco devoted significant attention to, both as a translator and as one being written about. So, it becomes clear to him, both theoretically and practically, that translation is fundamentally based on the principle of cultural openness, a characteristic that distinguished Eco. It relies on the foundations of dialogue and negotiation. Capturing meaning to convey it with sincerity often requires engaging in a dialogue with the text and the culture within its orbit to liberate oneself from extremism in its various forms. Dialogue, in turn, is based on negotiating between the linguistic, social, and cultural specificities inherent in the source text and those of the target text to minimize losses as much as possible and compensate where necessary. In this way, translation becomes an art that goes beyond linguistic knowledge alone; it involves the ability to negotiate and engage in dialogue. The art practised by translation is not merely linguistic; it doesn't transfer letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs. Instead, it is an art that allows the practitioner to navigate between cultures, ensuring that the translated text remains faithful to the source text, true to its meanings, and sincere in conveying its nuances.
