المستخلص: Al-Tashkhees in Arabic and Personification in English; these two terms refer to the same thing which is used to express attributing human characteristics to nonhumans, The problem lies in the lack of personification characteristics in the source language (Arabic) to the target language (English), as some translators lack the attribution of human characteristics to non-human ones in their translations . The current study aims at defining the concept of Al-tashkhees (personification) as a sub-device of figurative speech from the viewpoint of different scholars. Shedding the light on translator’s role in understanding the personification's meaning and translating it from Arabic to English in the novel of "Maqtal Ba'ia Al-kutub". Its hypotheses that knowing the type of personification helps translators to be accurate in their translations. The data used in this study are distributed according to what came in Sa'ad Mohammed Rahim's novel "Maqtal Ba'ia Al-Kutub" and the events it included. The analysis of the data is carried out in a form of table. The samples of this study include 3 Arabic personifications known as tashkhees. The data have rendered by M.A students from University of Tikrit/College of Arts/ Department of Translation . There are two models used in the present study. The first is the linguistic model proposed by Aqeel Mubdir Al-Khaqani (2010), which divides personification into three categories: personification of natural elements, psychological personification and mental personification. The second is the translational model proposed by Venuti (1995), who suggests the domestication and foreignization strategies.
