The Use of UV Visible Spectroscopy for the Determination of Iron Content of Different Brands of Iron Tablets

المستخلص: This study focused on estimating iron content in four Brands of pharmaceutical products by using Spectrophotometric method is based on the formation of ferrous tris ophenanthroline complex by boiling with hydroxylamin hydrochloride and subsequent addition with 1,10 phenanthroline at PH ~3.5. The maximum absorbance was found to be at be at 510 nm wavelength. A calibration curve was found to be linear up to the concentration range of 1mg /L to 6mg /L. The curve shows regression equation y=0.1772x +0.0025 (r = 0.9931). The study showed that the total iron content in pharmaceutical samples (A, B, C and D) had 79.15, 62.15, 347.10 and 41.85 mg per 80, 66, 350, and 42 mg respectively. These values are in good agreement with pharmacopial range . Analytical parameters such as accuracy and precision have been established statistically to assess the application of the method. The proposed method given a very good recovery % (94.16- 99.64 %) and relative standard deviation RSD % ( 0.10- 0.52).
