Gratitude is an important social value in Greek society. Its importance lies in the fact that it facilitates and strengthens all human relationships. But it seems to have lost its moral and human value in the era of Euripides. It was used with a double vision and with a view contrary to its fundamental and original meaning. It began to be viewed through private benefit and self-interest. The basis of dealing with it was “favor for favor”. This research is an attempt to shed light on the value of gratitude in Euripides‟ tragedy Hecuba, and how Euripides drew his characters through that value. Which contributes to shedding light on that social value in his theater at that time.
