المستخلص: تهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى الكشف عن واقع العلاقة بين تواصل الأحفاد مع الأجداد ووعي الأحفاد لاحتياجات كبار السن الاجتماعية في مدينة جدة من وجهة نظر الأحفاد، ومعرفة كمية تواصل (معدل الزيارة، المدة الزمنية) الأحفاد للأجداد، ومستوى التواصل اللفظي وغير اللفظي للأحفاد مع أجدادهم، ومستوى وعي الأحفاد لاحتياجات كبار السن الاجتماعية، ولتحقيق أهداف البحث استخدمت الباحثة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي وقامت بإعداد استبانة إلكترونية من محوريين أساسيين: محور التواصل بين الأحفاد والأجداد، ومحور وعي الأحفاد لاحتياجات كبار السن الاجتماعية بأبعادهما الفرعية، وتطبيقها على عينة ميسرة وعينة الاستجابة الطوعية قوامها (446) حفيد وحفيدة في مدينة جدة، ويشترط أن يتراوح عمر الحفيد من 15-21 عامًا، وأن يكون سعودي الجنسية، ومقيم في مدينة جدة، وأن يكون أحد أجداده على قيد الحياة. وأسفرت النتائج عن وجود علاقة طردية متوسطة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين تواصل الأحفاد مع الأجداد ووعي الأحفاد لاحتياجات كبار السن الاجتماعية، وخلصت النتائج إلى أن 36% من إجمالي العينة يزورون أجدادهم أسبوعيًا، و 35% من إجمالي العينة لا ترتبط زيارتهم بعدد ساعات محددة عند زيارة أجدادهم. وبينت فرضيات الدراسة عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في مستوى تواصل الأحفاد مع الأجداد تعزى للمتغيرات التالية (جنس الحفيد - إقامة الجد - سكن الجد)، كما أوضحت النتائج أن مستوى وعي الأحفاد لاحتياجات كبار السن الاجتماعية مرتفعًا جدًا. وفي ضوء هذه النتائج أوصت الباحثة بتوجيه الجهات التعليمية التي تقدم الأنشطة الطلابية إلى التركيز على المناهج التعليمية، والمشاريع البحثية، وإقامة الدورات التدريبية التي تساهم في تعزيز العلاقات بين الأحفاد والأجداد وتساهم في رفع مستوى الوعي باحتياجات كبار السن الاجتماعية.

The present study aims to reveal the reality of the relationship between grandchildren’s communication with grandparents and grandchildren’s awareness of the social needs of the elderly in the city of Jeddah from the grandchildren’s point of view. This relationship is obtained by examining the amount of communication (rate of visit, length of time) between grandchildren and grandparents, and the level of verbal and non-verbal communication. This study also aims to examine the level of grandchildren's awareness of the social needs of Elderly. This quantitative study used an analytical descriptive approach. To achieve the objectives of the research, an electronic questionnaire was prepared from two main axes: the communication between grandchildren and grandparents and its sub dimensions; and the grandchildren's awareness of the social needs of older adults and its sub dimensions. (446) grandchildren in the city of Jeddah were recruited using convenience sample and voluntary response sample method The grandchild must be of Saudi nationality, between 15-21 years old, reside in the city of Jeddah, and have one of his grandparents alive. Finding indicated a statistically significant relationship between grandchildren and grandparents and its relationship to grandchildren’s awareness of elderly the social needs. Results revealed that 36% of the total sample visits their grandparents weekly, and 35% of the total sample the length of time for grandchildren to visit their grandparents is not linked to a specific number of hours. Results of tested hypotheses showed that there were no statistically significant differences in grandchildren's level of communication that attribute to the following variables (grandchild sex _ grandfather residence _ grandfather housing). Results also showed that grandchildren's level of awareness of the elderly social needs was very high. In light of these findings, the following recommendations were made: directing educational providers of student's activities and officials to focus on educational curricula, research projects and training courses that contribute to the promotion of relations between grandchildren and grandparents and contribute to raising awareness of the social needs of older adults.
