As a human rights violation of worldwide significance, violence against women refers to any act of gender-based violence which results not only in physical violence, but also in sexual, emotional, psychological harm, brutality, or arbitrary deprivation of freedom. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, data and reports demonstrated that all types of violence against women, especially domestic violence or the so-called intimate partner violence, have accumulated increasingly due to the fact that the pandemic necessitated isolation and social distancing. In this vein, women unfortunately found themselves in lockdown with their abusers. Along these lines, the aim of this paper is to examine the reasons increasing the level of violence against women during Covid-19 in Morocco and more precisely in Oujda city. For this purpose, a qualitative research design was adopted to explore perceptions, suffering, pain, feelings, opinion or views on violence against women. Interviews with Oujdi organizations working on violence against women were conducted to collect data. Furthermore, a descriptive analysis was done to explore the causes of violence against Oujdi women. At last, the present paper provides the suggested solutions and sheds light on the global collective effort, which is highly needed to stop this social phenomenon since eliminating violence against women is a whole of government and the whole of population responsibility.
