This paper empirically investigated the relationship between tourism revenue and gross domestic product (GDP). using the panel data of 2 groups of countries (9 European countries, 9 African countries). for the period 2005–2020. based on Cointegration test, and Panel Granger causality analysis. The findings indicated the existence of lang run relationship between tourism and GDP in case of Europe. Moreover, for the European region, there is causal relationship from tourism to GDP. thus, tourism contributes significantly to economic growth for European selected countries. however, the results for African region showed that there is a unidirectional causality from GDP to tourism revenue. the Non-existence causality for some economies may be result of small share of tourism sector in an economy. Therefore, our results confirm the importance of this sector within national and international economies, necessitating concerted efforts towards its enhancement to elevate economic prosperity.
