|a يقع البحر الأبيض المتوسط بين قارات العالم القديم الثلاث، تتخلله عدة جزر كصقلية ومضائق كمضيق مسينا، بالإضافة إلى هدوء مياهه وتعاريج سواحله التي تشكل مرافئ طبيعية ملائمة لرسو السفن وإبحارها. يعتبر قاع هذا البحر مكانا حافلا بالسفن وحطامها وحمولاتها، سواء تلك التي غرقت بالعواصف والأعطاب، أو التي أغرقت عن طريق القرصنة أو المعارك البحرية، لا سيما القرطاجية منها، باعتبار أن القرطاجيين أمة بحرية، إذ تناولت المصادر القديمة الأسطول البحري القرطاجي، لكنها لم تأت بتفصيل واف عن السفينة القرطاجية. في هذا المقال سنحاول التعرض للسفينة الحربية القرطاجية، باعتبارها عنصرا أساسيا في الجيش القرطاجي، وما أضافه القرطاجيون للصناعة البحرية الحربية القديمة، استنادا لحطام سفينة مارسالا القرطاجية التي عثر عليها بجزيرة صقلية.
