المستخلص: France attempted to sow division among the different groups within maghreben society, to segregate MAGRIBs into two ethnic categories, Berbers and Arabs, in a strategy to weaken national unity and social cohesion. France exploited its experience in Algeria by subjecting the Amazigh people to French court law through the issuance of Berber Dahir. This was France's goal in separating Arabs from Berbers. Prince Shakib Arslan made significant efforts to combat French Berber policy in maghreb, which, according to him, aimed to undermine Islam, the Arabic language, and the maghreben people's components, tearing apart their unity and homogeneity and integrating them into French territory in pursuit of a means to permanently control North Africa.
