المستخلص: The disposal of wastewater generated by the different human activities particularly industry can have negative impact upon the receiving aquatic environment. The present study aims to isolation, identification of heavy metal resistant bacteria from two rivers in northern India, two resistant bacterial isolates were identified based on amplified 16S rRNA gene analysis. It was observed that first sequence LC648924 shows similarity with Kocuria flava, second sequence LC648925 shows similarity with Pseudomonas putida. Living biomass of K. flava and P. putida were used for the removal of heavy metal ions at 1000ppm concentrations (1mg/ml) from aqueous metal solutions of Pb, Cu respectively. Percent removal efficiency of K. flava was 31.74% for Pb and for P. putida was 25.02% for Cu. Therefore, the present study implies that K. flava and P. putida can be applied as a promising bioremediators for the removal of heavy metals from industrial wastewaters.
