المستخلص: This research aimed to get a better understanding of the notion of empathy as it is presented in Lois Lowry's Number The Stars via an examination of the story's narrative structure. The author makes an effort to go more into the novel's depiction of empathy and contrast it with the common understanding of the term in order to clarify whether or not there are any distinguishing features. Annemarie, a little girl of ten years old, lives through the events of the book as she watches her home nation of Denmark fall under the control of German forces bent on exterminating the Jewish population. Analyzing the novel's storyline and literary instruction, in particular, reveals some overarching ideas about empathy. The focus of this research is Annemarie. She plays a pivotal role in the tale and demonstrates empathy at key points. As the war situation becomes the primary reason for Annemarie's bravery, it has also been emphasized.
