This study attempts to discuss the critical role that mass media can play in sub-Saharan Africa, especially during times of crisis and instability, and the impact of new media as well as global media focusing on the African continent, particularly Russia, China, Europe, and American media. The paper then focuses on the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon as a case study to illustrate the key role of the media in this crisis. The paper ultimately concludes that the media in sub-Saharan Africa, like the media in both Rwanda and Cameroon, deliberately misled citizens and led them to see a vision different from the facts that existed on the ground, thus contributing to several crises and even genocide, As the Rwandan media did during the 1994 outbreak of genocide in the country.
