المستخلص: Burying the dead is a social and cultic practice that dates back to the Prehistoric, Epipaleolithic, and Neolithic periods. From protohistoric times, burying people became systematic, man was not satisfied in burying the dead only but treating him in a particular way. This is clearly manifested in a set of practices done by the population at that time towards corpses in ritual and material aspects, practices and funerary furnishings. In this work of analytical bibliographic synthesis, while relying on studies carried out on various graves, in northern Algeria, we try to explore this practice, relying on certain aspects and types of burials, the existing rites as well as their main features.

Inhumer les morts est une pratique sociale et cultuelle qui remonte aux périodes préhistoriques ; épipaléolithiques et néolithiques. A partir des temps protohistoriques, l’inhumation est devenue systématique, l’homme ne se contentait pas de l’obligation d’ensevelir le mort, mais aussi d’un traitement particulier qui lui sera accordé. Cela se traduit dans un ensemble de gestes pratiqués par les populations de cette période à l’encontre du cadavre et son accompagnement, dans ses aspects rituels et matériels ; pratiques et mobilier funéraires. Dans ce travail de synthèse bibliographique analytique, tout en se basant sur des études effectuées sur diverses sépultures, au nord algérien, nous tentons d’explorer cette pratique, de s’étaler sur certains aspects et types d’inhumation, les rites existants ainsi que leurs principales caractéristiques.
