|a كان مروان بن محمد المشهور بالشمقمق- شكله قبيح، وربما كان لذلك دور في بروز عنصر السخرية في شعره بوصفه نوعًا من الدفاع الداخلي عن الذات، ومن ثم كان معظم شعره من الهجاء اللاذع والفاحش أحيانا، وكان ذلك سببًا في عيشه في الفقر وشكواه الدائمة منه، وعدم وصوله لمديح طبقة الحكام إلا في القليل، ولا يتنافى سوء حظه وشدة فقره مع تقدير النقاد القدامى لمكانته الشعرية. فشاعرية أبي الشمقمق، وروح الفكاهة والسخرية الناتجة عن فقره وسوء الحظ الملازم له؛ أخرجت السخرية مغلفة بشيء من الغلظة والقسوة؛ فنراه ساخرًا من نفسه وحاله تارة، وأخرى هاجيًا لمن منعه العطاء. فآثرت في الكتابة عن الشمقمق الشاعر الساخر كأنموذج لشعر السخرية، واتخذت شعر الحيوان أنموذجا له.

He only rarely received praise from the ruling class, and his misfortune and extreme poverty do not contradict the appreciation of the ancient critics for his poetic status. The poeticism of Abu Al-Shammaq, and the sense of humor and sarcasm resulting from his poverty and bad luck; The sarcasm came out with a touch of harshness and cruelty; We see him sometimes mocking himself and his situation, and at other times satirizing those who prevented him from giving. So she preferred to write about the sarcastic poet Al-Shammaq as a model for satirical poetry, and took animal poetry as a model for it.
