|a الإحالة من أهم وسائل الترابط النصي الذي يوجد علاقة بين عنصر لغوي وآخر لغوي أو خارجي، وهي العلاقة بين العبارات والأشياء والأحداث والمواقف في العالم الذي يدل عليه بالعبارات ذات الطابع الاختياري في نص ما، إذ تشير إلى شيء ينتمي إلى نفس عالم النص. كما أنها تعني العلاقة المعنوية بين ألفاظ أو أسماء معينة وما تشير إليه من مسميات أو أشياء داخل النص أو خارجه، يدل عليها السياق أو المقام عن طريق ألفاظ أو أدوات محددة، كالضمير واسم الإشارة واسم الموصول، وتشير إلى مواقف سابقة ولاحقة في النص.
