المستخلص: تناقش الدراسة أهم مراكز العمران والمحطات التجارية على طريق البخور الممتد من جنوب الجزيرة العربية حتى ميناء غزة على البحر المتوسط، ودورها الحضاري في استمرارية هذا الطريق وازدهاره أكثر من ألف وخمسمائة عام، كما تناقش الدراسة تتبع الدور الحضاري الذي لعبه هذا الطريق حينذاك، إذ حرص العرب على تأمين مناطق الإنتاج في بلادهم وفي القرن الأفريقي من ناحية، وتأمين الطريق ومراكز العمران عليه من المنبع حتى المصب؛ ومن ثم تكمن أهمية هذه الدراسة في محاولة إبراز الدور الحضاري لمراكز العمران على طريق البخور لا سيما الدور الاقتصادي. كما تحاول الدراسة من خلال تحديد المسارات المتعددة للطريق معرفة تأثير الممالك والدول الكبرى المجاورة للجزيرة العربية في تحديد مصيرها الحضاري، والتي وردت في المصادر التاريخية، ووثائق المناطق التي تمر بها، ومعرفة أهم العلاقات بين ممالك شبه الجزيرة العربية والقوى الكبرى المعاصرة لها وتأثير ذلك على مراكز العمران لطريق البخور. كما تهدف الدراسة لمعرفة تأثير الاستقرار السياسي والازدهار الحضاري لممالك شبه الجزيرة العربية في عصورها القديمة على طريق البخور، وفي الوقت نفسه تأثير فترات الضعف والتدهور السياسي لها ونتائج ذلك على الطريق. كما اشتركت مراكز العمران على الطريق في توفر المقومات التي ساعدت على ظهورها، وفي مقدمتها الموقع الجغرافي بالإضافة إلى توفر المياه التي تحتاجها القوافل التجارية المارة بأرضها للتزود بالماء وكافة المؤن. أظهرت الدراسة المكانة المتميزة لهذه المراكز التجارية وثرائها؛ الذي اعتمد بشكل واضح على الأسواق التجارية الكبرى التي قامت بها، بالإضافة إلى ما كانت تحصل عليه من ضرائب من القوافل التي تمر بأراضيها. تؤكد الدراسة على أهمية طريق البخور قديماً وحديثاً من خلال رسم خريطة لطريق البخور قديماً وتحديد مساراته ورسم خريطة لنمط استغلال طريق البخور اليوم. من خلال الدراسة يمكن تحديد مدى تطابق طريق البخور مع شبكة الطرق الحديثة والمعاصرة بشبه الجزيرة العربية بنسبة كبيرة تجاوزت 76% من جملة طريق البخور والتي أعيد نمط استخدامها كطرق مرصوفة وسكك حديدية.

The study discusses the most important urban centers and commercial stations on the incense road extending from the south of the Arabian Peninsula to the port of Gaza on the Mediterranean Sea, and their civilizational role in the continuity and prosperity of this road for more than one thousand and five hundred years. The study also discusses the civilizational role played by this road at that time, as the Arabs were keen to secure the production areas in their countries and in the Horn of Africa on the one hand, and to secure the road and the urban centers on it from the source to the down streaming; hence the importance of this study lies in trying to highlight the civilizational role of the urban centers on the incense road, especially the economic role. The study also attempts, through identifying the multiple paths of the road, to know the influence of the kingdoms and major countries neighboring the Arabian Peninsula in determining its civilizational fate, which were mentioned in historical sources and documents of the regions through which it passes, and to know the most important relations between the kingdoms of the Arabian Peninsula and the major powers contemporary with them and the impact of that on the urban centers of the incense road. The study also aims to know the impact of the political stability and cultural prosperity of the kingdoms of the Arabian Peninsula in ancient times on the Incense Road, and at the same time the impact of periods of weakness and political deterioration and their results on the road. The urban centers on the road also shared the availability of the components that helped them emerge, most notably the geographical location in addition to the availability of water needed by the commercial caravans passing through their lands to supply themselves with water and all supplies. The study showed the distinguished status of these commercial centers and their wealth, which clearly depended on the major commercial markets they established, in addition to the taxes they received from the caravans passing through their lands. The study emphasizes the importance of the Incense Road, both ancient and modern, by mapping the ancient Incense Road, identifying its paths, and mapping the pattern of exploitation of the Incense Road today. Through the study, it is possible to determine the extent to which the Incense Road matches the modern and contemporary road network in the Arabian Peninsula, at a large rate exceeding 76% of the total Incense Road, which was reused as paved roads and railways.
