يعتبر "قداس الموتى Requiem Mass" أحد أهم أنواع التأليف الموسيقي وأكثرها انتشارا على مر تاريخ الموسيقى الكلاسيكية، فنجد مؤلفات "قداسات الموتى" لها وجود واضح منذ العصور الوسطى وحتى وقتنا الحاضر. ويعتبر لحن "يوم الحساب Dies Irae" في الأصل هو لحن لترنيمة رئيسية ومحورية تمثل القسم الأكثر شهرة داخل مؤلفة "قداس الموتى". حيث تقوم ترنيمة "يوم الحساب Dies Irae" على نص مأخوذ من قصيدة لاتينية تحمل نفس العنوان وتنتمي لفترة العصور الوسطى. وتترجم الكلمة اللاتينية "Dies Irae" حرفيًا على أنها "يوم الغضب"، إلا أن العديد من المراجع تطلق عليها ترنيمة يوم الحساب" أو "يوم القيامة"، ويرجع سبب هذه التسمية إلى نص القصيدة الذي يصف يوم القيامة، والبوق الذي يستدعي النفوس أمام عرش الله، حيث يتم إنقاذ المخلصين وإلقاء غير المخلصين في النيران الأبدية. تم تلحين نص قصيدة "يوم الحساب Dies Irae" في فترة العصور الوسطى لتصبح ترنيمة جريجورية. حيث جاء اللحن ليعبر عن اليوم الذي تنهض فيه أرواح الموتى من أجل الحكم الآلهي الأبدي. وقد كتب في النسخة الأصلية لترنيمة "يوم الحساب Dies Irae" جملة باللغة اللاتينية، تترجم على النحو التالي: "ضرب الموت، واهتز الكون، واستيقظت كل الخلائق، ولقاضيها تقديم الجواب". وقد احتل هذا اللحن القائم مكانة كبيرة، لما له من دلالة رمزية تعبر عن "الموت"، ليصبح أحد أكثر الألحان الموسيقية اقتباسا في تاريخ الموسيقى. فقد تم استخدامه لتمثيل "الموت" في الموسيقى الكلاسيكية سواء في إطار أعمال دينية مثل قداس الموتى أو في إطار أعمال غير دينية. وكذلك تم استخدامه في موسيقى العديد من الأفلام، مثل: المواطن كن Citizen Kane (1941)، إدوارد ذو أيدي المقص Edward Scissorhands (1990)، كابوس ما قبل عيد الميلاد The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)، الأسد الملك Lion King (2019)، وغيرهم. وعلى الرغم من الشهرة الكبيرة التي اكتسبها لحن "يوم الحساب Dies Irae" عبر العصور المختلفة، إلا إنه اقترن في الأصل بأعمال دينية، تقدمه في إطار ترنيمة تحمل نص ديني داخل قداس الموتى. لذا ترى الباحثة أن تناول لحن "يوم الحساب Dies Irae" خارج مؤلفة "قداس الموتى"، واستغلاله في إطار أعمال غير دينية أمر غير تقليدي وغير شائع يستحق الدراسة.
The "Requiem Mass" is considered one of the most important and most widespread types of musical composition throughout the history of classical music. The compositions of "Requiems" having a clear presence from the Middle Ages until the present day. "Dies Irae" was originally the melody of a major and central hymn that represents the most famous section of the Requiem. The hymn "Dies Irae" is based on a text taken from a Latin poem with the same title and belonging to the medieval period. The Latin word "Dies Irae" is literally translated as "Day of Wrath," but many references calls it the hymn "Day of Judgment" or "Day of Resurrection." The reason for this name is due to the text of the poem that describes the Day of Resurrection or the Last Judgment, the trumpet summoning souls before the throne of God, where the saved will be delivered and the unsaved cast into eternal flames. The text of the poem "Dies Irae" was composed in the medieval period as a Gregorian hymn. The melody came to recall a day where souls of the dead arise for eternal judgement. Originally written in Latin, one terrifying line translates as: "Death is struck, and nature quaking, All creations are awaking, to its judge an answer making." The dark tune has occupied a great place, because of its symbolic meaning that expresses "death", becoming one of the most quoted musical melodies in the history of music. It has been used to represent "death" in classical music, whether in sacred music such as Requiem Mass or even in secular music. It has also been used in the music of many films, such as: Citizen Kane (1941) , Edward Scissorhands (1990) , X2 (2003) , The Nightmare before Christmas (1993) , and The Lion King (2019) , and others. Despite the great fame that the tune "Dies Irae" has gained throughout the different eras, it was originally associated with religious works, presenting it within the framework of a hymn carrying a religious text within the Requiem Mass. Therefore, the researcher believes that using the theme of "Dies Irae" outside the composition of "Requiem Mass" and exploiting it within the framework of secular compositions is an unconventional and uncommon matter that deserves study.
