المستخلص: The study aims at analyzing the production and cost of maize crop in Sharkia Goveraorate, determining the major inputs in Sharida as will as in Egypt, determining the contribution of agricultural inputs items in total cost, and deriving the optimal capacity and therefore a achieving the production and economic efficiency for the inputs combination used under the production constrains. The study relied on the published data, in addition to applying questionnaire to collect the primary data required for the research subject through a stratified random sampling cllected from Fakose and menia El-Kameh districts in Sharkia Goveraorate. The nuumber of sample is about 60 farmers cultivated with maize in agricultural season 2004/2005. The results shows that the average area cultivated with mai» has annual increasing rate is about 4.45 thousand Fadden, and the annual increasing rate in production is about 68 kg per feddan in the period 1990 2003. The production function analysis shows that the maize production has positive response to changes in seeds quantity, and number hours of mechanical work, their production elasticities are about 0.546, 0.511 respectively. While it has negative response to changes in Balady fertilizer, where the production elasticity is about 0.238. The model reflect the increasing returns to scale, the total production elasticity is more than unit (about 1.057), this mean that if the production factors increased by unit, the production of maize will be increase more than unit (1.057). Mathmatically, we can determine the economic stage at the minimum point of the average production cost, where the average production cost equal the marginal production cost, which determine at the production is about 30.27 ardab achieved at about 1.45 Feddan in this case.
