|a يمثل تحقيق متن الكتاب أو المخطوط، أهم عنصر من عناصر عملية تحقيق المخطوطات، والمراد من تحقيق متن الكتاب هو أن يؤدى الكتاب أداء صادقا كما وضعه مؤلفه كما وكيفا بقدر الإمكان، إذ لا يعني تحقيق المتن تحسينا أو تصحيحا، بل هو أمانة الأداء التي تقتضيها أمانة التاريخ، فإن متن الكتاب حكم على المؤلف، وحكم على عصره وبيئته، وهي اعتبارات تاريخية لها حرمتها، كما أن ذلك الضرب من التصرف عدوان على حق المؤلف الذي له وحده حق التبديل والتغيير. وقلما حظيت النصوص الشعبية بنسخ متعددة، فأغلب نصوص الأدب الشعبي تتوفر في نسخة واحدة، إذ سعى البحث إلى الكشف عن المظاهر التي تعاملت مع تحقيق النص الشعبي المدون، وكيف تعاطت الثقافة الرسمية مع النص الشعبي في حقل تحقيق النصوص، وهل أخضعته لسياقاتها؟.
