طالما كان الضوء شيء أساسي في حياة المرء منذ بدء الخليقة، فكل حياته ترتبط باتباع النهار والليل وما يرمز إليه النور وما ترمز إليه الظلمة وسواء ما كان مصدر هذا النور الشمس أو قبس من نار أو النجوم فقد قدس الإنسان الأول في أي حضارة أو أي مكان النور ومصدره، وبما في ذلك بعض الألوان التي ترمز إلى هذا المصدر كالألوان الدافئة واللون الذهبي. ومع غياب الضوء تأتي رهبة الظلمة والخوف من الغيبيات، فيقدس الإنسان الأول الليل وما يرتبط به من ألوان باردة يرمز بها إلى مخاوفه فبالتالي أصبحت الألوان كلها ذات دلالات وتأثيرات كثيرة على حياة الإنسان ومعتقداته وحتى نشاطه وصحته. إن المتتبع للأعمال الفنية عبر الحضارات المختلفة في مصر وصولا إلى الفن المعاصر يجد أن اللون كان مركز اهتمام الكثير من الفنانين لما له من دور أساسي وضروري في التعبير، فما من مدرك في الطبيعة إلا وله هيئة وملمس ولون، ويمثل اللون أحد عوامل الإثارة التي يمكن استثمارها في الإبداعات الفنية، لما يحويه من قيم تعبيرية. وقد تعرضت الباحثة للجانب النظري للون والجانب التطبيقي من خلال أعمال الفنان صلاح طاهر الذي استحدث معاني الألوان في الخطوط التي يجيد استعمالها كل الإجادة وخلق لوحات مجردة جاذبة للغاية تهز الأحاسيس بتجاعيدها الصعبة وألوانها الزاهية التي يلعب بها الفنان كمايسترو في سيمفونية لونية وفي رحلة لأعماق وروح وفن صلاح طاهر نجد أن فلسفته في الحياة شديدة الشبه بفلسفة شوبنهاور حيث أنه يؤمن بأن الفن هو الشيء الذي يجعل الحياة جديرة بأن تعاش.
