|a تدعي الولايات المتحدة بأنها تلتزم أعلى معايير حقوق الإنسان والقانون الدولي، وغالبا ما تنشر تقارير تنتقد فيها الدول الأخرى بسبب انتهاكاتها لتلك المعايير. ومع ذلك، حين يتعلق الأمر بالانتهاكات الإسرائيلية لتلك المعايير والحقوق، مثلما يحدث اليوم من إبادة جماعية في غزة، لا تكتفي الولايات المتحدة بالتحيز لـ«إسرائيل» بل تبرر تلك الانتهاكات وتشرعنها، وتشارك فيها، بدعوى حق إسرائيل في الدفاع عن نفسها. تمثل هذه الدراسة لحظة للتفكير في أصول التحيز والانتقائية الغربية بوجه عام والأمريكية بوجه خاص في التعاطي مع القضية الفلسطينية، كما تمثل دعوة إلى البحث في طبيعة العلاقات الأمريكية- الإسرائيلية الملتبسة وغير المنطقية في كثير من عناصرها.
|b The United States claims to adhere to the highest standards of human rights and international law and often publishes reports criticizing other countries for violating these standards. However, when it comes to Israeli violations of these standards and rights, such as the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the United States not only shows bias toward «Israel» but also justifies and legitimizes these violations, even participating in them under the pretext of Israel’s right to defend itself. This study offers a moment to reflect on the origins of Western bias and selectivity in general, and American bias in particular, in dealing with the Palestinian cause. It also serves as an invitation to explore the nature of the often ambiguous and illogical U.S.-Israel relationship in many of its aspects.
