In embarking on the process of writing this search, our first goal was to deepen our own knowledge in relation to the question of the influence of incarceration on the lives of women prisoners, as well as to deepen our know-how in the process of social research. The living conditions imposed on women incarcerated in the same setting and under the same authority, how do they experience their experiences of incarceration? How do they manage them? What is the nature of their strategies for coexistence and cohabitation in prison? What are the forms of behavior they adopt towards others? Can we understand the identity of these women? All these questions are just a few among many others related to the criminal and prison world that we wanted to answer. These women have aroused in us the interest of exploring this period of detention in an environment that has long been a subject at the heart of social and humanist debates that requires collective reflection and intervention and that influences in one way or another the identity of the detained person. We therefore studied at an individual level the effects of this experience of imprisonment on female prisoners, in relation to their post-prison journey.
