The present paper investigates the profound impact of the extravagant consumer culture on the individual’s self and identity in Martin Amis’s Money: A Suicide Note. It aims at proving that the postmodern capitalist society is suffering from an identity crisis due to its extreme obsession with monetary gain and insatiable greed. Relying on the perspective of postmodern literary theory, this article offers an in-depth analysis of the destructive consequences of the relentless pursuit of material profit on personal self and identity. Moreover, the study examines Amis’s satirical and sharp language that unveils the harsh reality of the contemporary materialistic age. The findings of this work demonstrate that the alluring postmodern consumer culture can disintegrate and distort the essence of one’s self and identity ultimately leading to moral and social decay.
