|a التعدد معناه: ما يزيد عن الواحد وإذا ألحقنا كلمه التعدد بالزوجة فهي تعنى الزيادة على الزوجة الواحدة وإذا ألحقناها بجمع زوجه نقول تعدد الزوجات. وقد قيد تعدد الزوجات بقيدين الشرط الأول العدل بين الزوجات والشرط الثاني القدرة على الاتفاق على الزوجات وعلى من تجب له النفقة. وقد اجتمع الفقهاء الأربعة في الشريعة الإسلامية على مشروعيه التعدد وجوازه. وهناك إيجابيات للتعدد منها تحقيق الآثار الدينية وتأسيس أسره تسودها الرحمة والحاجة إلى زيادة النسل والعمل على تخفيف بعض المشاكل الإنسانية كأعاله أرمله وكفاله الأيتام والتقليل من العنوسة. وهناك بعض السلبيات في تطبيق نظام تعدد الزوجات منها الظلم وعدم العدل بين الزوجات وعدم القدرة على الإنفاق والقلق النفسي للأبناء. والقانون الفرنسي يجرم تعدد الزوجات لأسباب تتعلق بالمساواة بين الجنسين، وحقوق الإنسان، والاندماج الاجتماعي ويعتبره انتهاكا لحقوق المرأة ويتعارض مع القيم العلمانية لفرنسا ويؤدى إلى مشكلات اجتماعيه واقتصاديه بل أن القانون الفرنسي يخضع الزوج لعقوبة الجنحة في حاله تعدد الزوجات.

Polygamy is restricted by two conditions, the first condition is justice between wives and the second condition is the ability to agree on wives and who is entitled to support. Spinsterhood: There are some negatives in applying the polygamy system, including injustice and unfairness between wives, the inability to provide for the family, and psychological anxiety for the children. French law criminalizes polygamy for reasons related to gender equality, human rights, and social integration. It is considered a violation of women's rights, in conflict with France's secular values, and leads to social and economic problems. French law even subjects the husband to a misdemeanor penalty in the case of polygamy.
