This article studies Mark Romanek's film adaptation Never Let me go (2010) to analyze the humans' exercised control and the clones' reactionary intentional creation from semiotic and hermeneutic approaches. This cinematic work is based on the Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishigor's dystopian novel. The study uses semiotics in analyzing the film's cinematography to show the clones characters' preservation of their human identity despite the exercised control. Concerning hermeneutics, it is employed in interpreting the characters` dialogues by analyzing the used language that reveals the underlying themes. The research contributes in showing the challenge of preserving the human identity in a globalized world that is massively influenced by the constant change generated by technological development. |
