|a شكلت النقود دورا هاما في عملية التاريخ للطبقات الأثرية بالإضافة إلى اللقى والتحف المكتشفة فمثلت دورا هاما في عملية توثيقها وتاريخيها بشكل دقيق يسهل على الأثري في موقع أعمال الحفائر عملية التسجيل والتوثيق والتأريخ، حيث تعد النقود مصدرا هاما من مصادر التوثيق والتأريخ، بالإضافة إلى إعطاء تصور عن الحياة الاجتماعية السائدة في موقع الحفائر قديما من خلال نوع النقود سواء ذهبية أو فضية أو نحاسية، وكذلك ما نقش على تلك النقود من نقوش وكتابات تمهد للأثري عن الأحداث التاريخية في موقع الحفر.
