|a يهدف البحث إلى بيان أهمية معرفة المصطلحات العلمية وأثرها البالغ في ضبط العلوم، واختصار فهمها، وتتعدد بحسب تعدد حصر أجزاء ما يراد تعريفه، لذا تنوعت المصطلحات في العلم الواحد، وتعددت إطلاقاته على معان شتى في زمن واحد، لهذا تأتي أهمية معرفة المصطلحات، والوقوف على تعريف العلماء لها، وتتبع تسلسلها التاريخي، قرنا بعد قرن، ليعرف مسار التعريف والمصطلح وأهمية إجراء دراسة شاملة لمعرفة التسلسل التاريخي المصطلح، لمعرفة أول من أطلق المصطلح، وتمييز الإضافات والقيود عليه، ومعرفة ضوابط العلم، ودفع اللبس والاختلاف، وتغليط الأئمة، وبيان الجهود المعاصرة في دراسة بعض المصطلحات وبيان تسلسلها التاريخي.
