المستخلص: Introduction: The internal migration is the most important factor affecting population redistribution. In Egypt internal migration is considering as one of the major component of population changes, beside its effect on different aspects of economic, social and environmental community. In Egypt we have no policy-drawn and clear for migration between governorates, which are highly density populated to those with low population density. The main finding: 1- In and out migration rates by governorates showed the same downward trend in most of the governorates between 1996 and 2006. 2- No change in net migration rates in the gaining and losing governorates between 1996&2006 census. 3- The largest number of migrants moved from Cairo governorate. 4- The lowest number of migrants within the governorates of Fayoum and Luxor. 5- About 84% of the total migrants in the age between 15 to 64 years. 6- The dependency ratio among migrants 19.2%. 7- About 66% of the total female migrants are in reproductive age (15-49). 8- About 44% of the total migrants at a medium level of education or higher. 9- 69% of the total migrants were married. 10- 85% of the total migrants were employed. 11- 17% of the total male migrants engaged in manufacturing activity. 12- 26% of female migrant workers employed in the education activity. 13- the main reason of migration are marriage and work Recommendations: 1- Encourage the migration to new cities. 2- Try to attract population to losing governorates in order to reduce the negative factors for these governorates. 3- Implement field survey to study the main reasons for migration and non migration and its effect for migrants and non migrants in greater Cairo region.
